Description
HOW EXACTLY DOES MICROCHIPPING WORK?
A tiny microchip is injected under your pup’s skin typically along the dorsal midline, just between the shoulder blades. This gives your pup their own unique ID code.
The microchip can be scanned and matched to the owner’s contact details, which are kept on a national database, such as AKC Reunite
Microchipping is only effective if you keep your details up to date. If you move or change your telephone number, you must make sure you update the database or databases you are registered with so that they have your current contact details.
WILL A MICROCHIP TELL ME MY ROTTWEILER’S LOCATION?
Unfortunately, Pet microchips are not tracking devices and do not work like global positioning devices (GPS). They are radio-frequency identification (RFID) implants that provide a permanent ID for your puppy. Using RFID technology, microchips do not require a power source like a GPS. When a microchip scanner is passed over your Rottweiler by a veterinarian or animal care specialist, the microchip gets adequate power from the scanner to transmit the microchip’s ID number. Since there’s no battery and no moving parts, there’s nothing to keep charged, wear out, or replace. The microchip will last your pet’s lifetime.
HOW AND WHERE TO REGISTER?
Registering your new family member is easy. I strongly suggest registering with your veterinarian if they offer this service or having the conversation, so you know who they who they recommend. The registries most commonly used in your specific area by Animal Care Specialist will enhance the chance of finding your pup as soon as possible. The manufacturer of our microchips is DATAMARS, some registries ask for the microchips manufacturer while some do not.
As AKC Breeders we recommend registering with AKC Reunite, lifetime enrollment is only 19.50 online with no annual fees. There are several registries that are free and offer reliable nationwide databases, I have included a few microchip registries links below:

Keeping your information in the database current is very important. We recommend all Puppy Parents routinely check microchip registry information for accuracy.
